General Fencing
Can you remove my existing fence?
Yes, we can manage the removal and disposal of your old fence.
Do you have a QBCC Licence and are you insured?
Yes, we have a QBCC Builder – Low Rise Licence and we are fully insured.
How long does a typical fence installation take?
Most residential fencing projects take 1–5 days, depending on the length, materials, access, and weather. Larger projects with longer runs or retaining walls may take longer. We'll give you a realistic timeframe when we assess your site, so you know what to expect.
What fencing materials do you recommend for Queensland conditions?
Colorbond® steel and treated timber are both excellent choices for Queensland — durable, termite resistant, and built to handle our climate. The best option really depends on your purpose, location, and style preferences. We can help you decide.
Can fencing be installed on sloping or uneven land?
Absolutely! Sloping sites are handled in one of two ways — stepped (the fence installs in level sections that step up or down) or raked (the fence follows the natural slope for a smooth, flowing look). Where retaining walls are involved, we assess each site individually to ensure the structure suits the terrain and soil conditions.
Where do you work?
We service the local Sunshine Coast area.
Dividing Fence & Neighbour
Do I need my neighbour's approval before building a fence?
In most cases, yes. Queensland law requires you to notify your neighbour and allow reasonable time for a response, typically 30 days, before work begins. We can guide you through this process to make sure everything is handled correctly.
What if my neighbour doesn't respond?
If a neighbour doesn't respond after a reasonable period, further steps may be required before works can proceed. We can explain this process.
Do you contact my neighbour on my behalf?
The legal responsibility to notify and negotiate sits with the property owners. That said, we can make it much easier — we have templates you can use to make sure everything is communicated correctly from the start.
Do neighbours have to pay half the cost?
Generally, yes — neighbours are typically required to share the cost of a sufficient fence equally. If you or your neighbour prefers an upgraded or higher-cost option, the additional cost above a standard fence is usually covered by the person requesting the upgrade.
What is considered a 'sufficient fence'?
A dividing fence is sufficient if it: (a) is between a minimum of 0.5m and 1.8m high; (b) is constructed mainly of 'prescribed material' (timber palings and lattice panels, chain wire, metal panels or rods, bricks, rendered cement, concrete blocks, hedge or vegetative barrier, or other material from which a dividing fence is usually constructed); (c) can restrain the type of livestock grazed on either neighbour's adjoining pastoral land.
What height is allowed for a fence?
Fence height limits vary depending on the location and site conditions. Heights over 2 metres require approval.
Do you install pool fencing?
Yes, pool fencing is regulated separately under Queensland law. Please contact us to discuss options if pool fencing is required.
What happens if my fence is near a retaining wall or structure?
Additional approvals (council and private certification) or engineering may be required depending on the height, proximity to other structures, and site conditions.
Cost & Pricing
Why do fencing costs vary so much between properties?
No two properties are the same. Costs are influenced by a range of factors including access, ground conditions, slope, materials, and any approvals required such as council, building, or engineering sign-off. If the boundary isn't clearly defined or agreed upon in writing, a surveyor may also be needed to confirm the exact boundary line before work can begin.
Do you require a deposit?
Yes. Deposit and payment terms are outlined clearly in your quote and agreement. If the fence quote is: $3,300 or less — maximum deposit 20% of contract price; $3,301–$19,999 — maximum deposit is 10% of contract price; More than $20,000 — maximum deposit is 5% of contract price.
Do you provide a quote over the phone (e.g. a lineal metre rate)?
No. Every fence job is different, so a phone quote rarely tells the whole story. Factors such as slope, access, old fence removal, and council approvals all affect the price. We prefer to visit your site first, so there are no surprises.
Timing & Logistics
How far in advance should I book?
We recommend booking as early as possible. Lead times can vary depending on demand and material availability.
Can fencing be installed in wet weather?
Sometimes! Light rain usually isn't a problem, but heavy or prolonged wet weather can affect safety and quality. If we need to reschedule, we'll let you know as soon as possible.
Will installation affect my neighbour's property?
We take every care to minimise disruption to neighbouring properties. Occasionally we may need access to your neighbour's side — if so, we'll always seek their approval first and leave the area just as we found it.
Warranty & Care
Do you offer a warranty on your fencing?
Yes. We stand behind our work with a workmanship warranty on all installations. Material warranties vary depending on the product and manufacturer — we'll make sure you receive all the relevant warranty information.
How do I maintain my fence?
Maintenance requirements depend on the fence type. We provide a maintenance and warranty guide at the completion of your fence installation.
Retaining Walls
Do I need approval to build a retaining wall?
In most cases, yes. Before building or replacing a retaining wall, we recommend seeking advice from a private building certifier — a building permit is required for most retaining wall construction, modification, or repair. For retaining walls over 2 metres high, council approval is also required in addition to the private certifier approval. The good news is our private certifier can arrange the council referral on your behalf, making the process as straightforward as possible.
